Science-based targets: A pathway to climate-neutrality? - @Anuga FoodTec

Informationen

In cooperation with Zenit, we are bringing you this expert talk at Anuga FoodTec. Are you ready to future-proof your business by aligning your climate-neutrality journey to science-based targets? Join us as we discuss learnings and best practices with industry leaders that have embarked on the zero-emission journey.

The objective is clear: Europe aims to be climate-neutral by 2050, and given that 31% of greenhouse gas emissions come from the agrifood industry, we have to deliver. But how? A myriad of carbon-neutral certifications abound, with different standards and different approaches to the upstream and downstream supply chain activities (Scope 3). The result: lack of transparency and ultimately a lack of consumer trust.

Science-based targets aim to change that. They translate abstract goals in concrete action items for different industries, taking their specificities into account. In doing so, they provide a clearly-defined pathway for companies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, based on targets that are in line with what the latest climate science deems necessary to meet the goals of the Paris agreements.

We are excited to hear from our panel of experts on how exactly they make science-based targets work for them:

Speaker:
Meike Packeiser, Senior Sustainability Manager, Arla Foods Deutschland
Hans Scheuren, Vice President GR&D, SIG Combibloc

Moderation: M. Lee Greene, Foodhub NRW

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a partnership between CDP, World Resources Institute (WRI), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and the United Nations Global Compact (UN Global Compact).

The expert talk is followed by start-up pitches and networking drinks.
